About the Harp

Dublin is the capital and largest city of Ireland, known for its iconic harp - the national symbol of Ireland and a representation of the country's rich musical heritage. The city combines historic charm with vibrant culture, featuring the famous Trinity College and its Book of Kells, the historic Temple Bar district, the beautiful Phoenix Park, and the traditional Irish harp that symbolizes the nation's cultural identity.

It cannot be verified that a "Dublin Harp" is genuinely a symbol of the city of Dublin. The harp is instead a national emblem of Ireland: it appeared on Anglo-Irish coinage from the reign of Henry VIII in the 1530s, was used on the arms of the Kingdom of Ireland, and was adopted as the state emblem of the Irish Free State in 1922, based on the medieval instrument known as the Brian Boru harp, held at Trinity College Dublin. Dublin connections exist through that instrument and through Guinness, whose St James's Gate brewery registered a harp trademark in 1876, but Dublin's own civic arms show three castles, not a harp.
