Bucharest
Romania
The old town of Sibiu is watched over by its 'eyes': narrow eyebrow-shaped dormer vents set low in the steep tiled roofs, built by Transylvanian Saxon householders to ventilate attics used for curing cheese and storing grain. Seen from the street the half-lidded openings appear to follow passers-by, and they have become the city's best-known visual signature.
