Meroë Nubian Pyramids

Meroë Nubian Pyramids - Meroë, Sudan

Meroë is an ancient city on the east bank of the Nile in Sudan, once the royal seat of the Kingdom of Kush. Its Nubian pyramids — smaller, steeper, and more numerous than those of Egypt — rise from the desert in three royal cemeteries where Kushite kings and queens were entombed between roughly 300 BCE and 350 CE. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the pyramids of Meroë are a striking reminder that Africa's pyramid-building civilization stretched far up the Nile, rivaling its northern neighbor in both power and craftsmanship.
